New England Regional Student Program

The University of Connecticut participates in the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE)  Tuition Break Program, also known as the New England Regional Student Program.  Students who are legal residents in New England states may qualify for a reduced New England Regional tuition rate if they are enrolled in an eligible major.

New England States

Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont

Avery Point Campus

Effective Fall 2024, all first year and new transfer, New England-resident students enrolling at UCONN’s Avery Point campus will be eligible for the Tuition Break tuition rate for the duration of their undergraduate enrollment at the Avery Point campus.

Qualifying Majors

Please refer to the New England Board of Higher Education website for a list of qualifying programs.  New students admitted to the University who qualify for the New England Regional rate based upon their residency and their major will have New England Regional tuition rates automatically reflected in their fee bill.

Residency Changes

All changes in residency must be approved and formally processed. If changing residency within a student's first semester at UConn, please contact One Stop at onestop@uconn.edu or 860-486-1111 (undergraduate students only) or Graduate Admissions (graduate students).  Any changes in residency made after the student's first semester must be processed through Dean of Students for undergraduate students or The Graduate School for grad students.

A change in residency may impact a student’s eligibility for the New England Regional program.  It may also impact the tuition rate charged and financial aid awarded.  Please contact Office of the Bursar at (860) 486-4830 or bursar@uconn.edu for more information regarding changes to your billed tuition rate.  Please contact Office of Student Financial Aid Services for questions regarding changes to your financial aid.

Changing Majors: Adjustments to Tuition Rate, Merit Scholarship, & Financial Aid Awards

Changing from a qualifying major to a non-qualifying major, and vice versa, will result in a change between New England Regional and Out-of-State tuition rates accordingly.  Students are encouraged to review the current undergraduate tuition rates and current graduate tuition rates prior to changing majors between qualifying and non-qualifying programs.   Please contact Office of the Bursar with questions on tuition rates.

Financial aid award amounts, including merit scholarship, may be revised based on the change in tuition rate caused by switching between qualifying and non-qualifying programs.  Students are encouraged to consider adjustments in aid awards prior to changing majors.
